The Two Cent Piece obverse features a shield with a pair of arrows crossed behind, dangles of leaves and berries on both sides, a scroll with "IN GOD WE TRUST" above, and the date below. The reverse has the denomination "2 CENTS" within a wreath, all surrounded by the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". The Two Cent Piece is the first coin that had the motto "In God We Trust". Two Cent Pieces were minted from 1864 through 1873 it is one of the shortest circulating coin series in American coinage. These 2c coins were all minted at the Philadelphia mint. The 1873 coin was the only one not minted for circulation. It is only available as a proof specimen. The coin was designed by the legendary James Longacre.
